Tim O’Neal’s Journey Leads to Triumph with First PGA TOUR Champions Title

After years of perseverance, Tim O’Neal achieved his biggest career victory on Sunday, winning his first PGA TOUR Champions title at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic. The 52-year-old, who had narrowly missed out on a PGA TOUR card multiple times, secured his win by two shots over Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez.

O’Neal’s win, marked by a final round of 7-under 65, pushed him from 55th to 13th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, securing his spot in the playoffs’ next round. His triumph at The Country Club of Virginia also guarantees his 2025 PGA TOUR Champions card.

The win comes after a long career playing on various tours worldwide. Despite setbacks at PGA TOUR Q-School in his earlier years, O’Neal’s persistence paid off. His emotional victory on Sunday was a culmination of decades of dedication, with O’Neal saying, “For me to get it done when I had to, that means a lot.”

With this victory, O’Neal moves on to the Simmons Bank Championship, with hopes of advancing to the final round of the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs in Phoenix.
