Tyson Fury has revealed that his wife, Paris, suffered a miscarriage just one day before his fight against Oleksandr Usyk in May. Fury only learned of the heartbreaking news after returning home from the bout, in which he lost his WBC world heavyweight title in Saudi Arabia.
At a press conference promoting his upcoming rematch with Usyk on December 21, Fury shared details of the tragic event for the first time. Paris was six months pregnant with their eighth child, a boy, and the miscarriage occurred the day before the fight. Fury explained that he had been unaware of the situation, as his wife kept it from him to shield him during his bid to become the first undisputed champion in the heavyweight division in 24 years.
“The baby she was carrying passed away on the Friday before the fight. It wasn’t an early miscarriage; she had to give birth to our stillborn son on her own while I was abroad. It’s something no one should have to go through, especially alone,” Fury said.
He expressed his deep sadness at not being able to support his wife during such a difficult time, adding, “I’ve been with her longer than I’ve been without her in my life. Not being there when she needed me is something I’ll always struggle with.”
Fury also described how he sensed something was wrong when Paris couldn’t attend the fight, as she usually did. She had mentioned high blood pressure as a reason for staying back, but Fury suspected more. “I asked her to tell me what was wrong, but she wouldn’t. In my heart, I knew she had lost the baby.”
Despite the pain, Fury said he didn’t want to dwell on the tragedy: “No more of this morbid stuff now because I’ll break down in tears.”
