Glasgow will be called the Commonwealth Host of the Commonwealth of 2026 after the state financing was provided for the event.

The Australian state Victoria was supposed to participate in the Games, but last year it left growing expenses. After a long negotiations with the organizer, the Scottish government is currently signed for the production of 2026 games.

This occurred after the Federal Federation promised 100 million pounds’ sterling investment, and the British government guarantee the support. Australian officials also pledged millions of pounds late last week to support Glasgow’s bid.

The decision came after tournament organizers sought to reassure the Scottish government that public funds would not be needed to stage the tournament.

Glasgow did host the 2014 games, but the event in 2026 will be scaled back – with fewer venues and the number of sports to be reduced from 18 to 10-13.

Ian Reid CBE, Chair of Commonwealth Games Scotland, said: \”Today Glasgow 2026 is one step closer to becoming a reality and we are delighted that both the Scottish and UK governments have backed our proposal. “We have been clear from the outset that our Games concept for Glasgow 2026 is aligned with the CGF’s strategy to make the Games more accessible to future hosts without the need for public funding. Glasgow is one of the few cities in the Commonwealth that can meet the deadline thanks to its world-class facilities, experienced workforce and strong supply chain. “This is a really exciting opportunity and we will be working hard over the next few days to put the final pieces of the puzzle together. “I would like to thank the Commonwealth Games Federation and the Australian Commonwealth Games for their confidence in this project and their financial contribution, which has enabled us to host the games without the need for public funding and has provided a significant economic boost to the Australian city of Glasgow and Scotland.”
