Following the Cincinnati Bengals’ disappointing 17-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase did not hold back in expressing his frustration, particularly with the team’s coaching decisions and the performance of the kicking unit. The loss, which dropped the Bengals to 4-5 on the season, left the second-year wideout visibly upset, and his comments in the aftermath have generated considerable attention.
Chase, who had a strong game with 10 receptions for 100 yards, voiced his concerns about the team’s overall performance, but his sharpest criticism was aimed at the coaching staff’s strategic choices during the game. While the Bengals’ offense struggled to convert in critical situations, Chase pointed to some key moments where he felt the team could have been more aggressive or creative. He also questioned the play-calling, which appeared to be too conservative at times, especially in the second half when the Bengals were trying to mount a comeback.
“I just feel like we didn’t have a good game plan,” Chase said after the game. “We didn’t come out and execute, and we’ve got to do better, coaching-wise, play-calling-wise. We need to be better.”
While Chase didn’t single out any particular coach, his frustration was clear. The Bengals’ offensive struggles have been a recurring theme this season, despite the talent on the roster, and Chase’s comments highlighted the growing sense of urgency within the team.
Chase also voiced frustration with the performance of the kicking unit, particularly after kicker Evan McPherson missed an extra point and a crucial 53-yard field goal attempt late in the game that could have won the contest. The missed opportunities were costly, and Chase emphasized that these are the moments that separate wins from losses in tight games.
“We can’t afford to miss kicks in games like this,” Chase said. “It’s tough to see those opportunities slip away when we’re so close.”
The Bengals’ loss to the Chargers was a tough pill to swallow, and Chase’s comments reflect the mounting pressure the team is feeling as they fight to stay in playoff contention. With a challenging schedule ahead, it’s clear that both the coaching staff and players will need to reassess their approach if they hope to turn the season around.
