Taiwan’s Kevin Yu secured his first PGA Tour victory in dramatic fashion at the 2024 Sanderson Farms Championship, defeating American Beau Hossler in a sudden-death playoff. The win at The Country Club of Jackson marked a breakthrough moment for Yu, who birdied the first extra hole to claim the title after both players finished tied at 23 under par.
Yu delivered a composed performance, shooting a final-round 67 that included birdies on the 15th and 18th holes to set a competitive clubhouse target. Hossler, who managed to scramble for par after a wayward drive on the 18th, matched Yu’s score to force the playoff. In the sudden-death showdown, Yu held his nerve, sinking a six-foot birdie putt for the win after Hossler’s impressive bunker shot left him with a likely par.
The playoff was set up by late drama, as Keith Mitchell, who held a two-shot lead with five holes remaining, missed a critical opportunity to win in regulation. Mitchell’s 35-foot birdie attempt on the 18th green raced past the hole, and he missed the return putt, opening the door for Yu and Hossler.
Reflecting on his victory, Yu said, “It’s literally a dream come true. I’ve been dreaming of this since I was five years old.” He added, “I set a goal today; I thought if I could shoot five or six under I’d have a good chance. I just focused on doing my best with every shot, and it paid off.”
The win is a major milestone in Yu’s young career, establishing him as a rising star on the PGA Tour. His composed play in the final round and calmness under playoff pressure showcased his potential to be a force in future tournaments.
As the Sanderson Farms Championship wrapped up, the golf world now turns its attention to the upcoming Open de France and the Black Desert Championship, both of which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf starting Thursday.
