The New York Jets have faced significant physical and emotional challenges in recent weeks, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers is no exception. As the Jets gear up for their Week 8 matchup against the New England Patriots, Rodgers is managing several injuries.
The four-time MVP was added to the injury report on Wednesday—something that has become routine for him this season—due to a hamstring injury. This latest issue adds to a growing list of ailments he’s faced this year, including injuries to both knees and a low ankle sprain.
At nearly 41 years old, Rodgers is contending with four separate injuries, raising concerns about his overall health. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich indicated that Rodgers would be limited during practice on Wednesday, but he reassured reporters that the quarterback’s availability for Sunday’s game was not in doubt—a trend that has characterized Rodgers’ season.
Should Jets fans be worried about Rodgers’ condition? Since Week 4, he has not participated fully in practice on a Wednesday. He was limited due to a knee injury in Week 5, an ankle injury in Week 6, and even missed a complete practice last week because of the ankle issue.
While none of these injuries seem severe enough to sideline him for Week 8, the accumulation of ailments is concerning. Rodgers has shown increasing immobility and discomfort in the pocket, which could be impacting his performance.
Additionally, he is just over a year removed from tearing his Achilles, and with four injuries already in 2024, it’s not surprising that he appears hesitant to throw downfield.
That said, the Jets’ struggles this season cannot solely be attributed to Rodgers’ injuries. The issues run deeper than just the quarterback position and affect the entire roster. However, the injuries certainly exacerbate the situation.
The Jets will keep a close watch on Rodgers’ status as the week unfolds, but there is currently no indication that he will be unavailable for Week 8. Tyrod Taylor serves as Rodgers’ primary backup, with Adrian Martinez on the practice squad, having already been elevated once this season.
