Bradford City is anxiously awaiting the results of a scan on Lewis Richards’ injured shoulder, as the team grapples with yet another setback in their squad. Richards was forced off late in Saturday’s game against Colchester after his left shoulder dislocated.
The defender required extensive treatment from the club’s medical staff before being helped off the field and later administered oxygen in the dressing room to manage the pain. While the full extent of the injury is still being evaluated, Richards has been ruled out of Tuesday’s EFL Trophy clash with Rotherham and is unlikely to feature in Saturday’s League Two fixture against Accrington Stanley at Valley Parade.
With Tyreik Wright sidelined until the new year due to a thigh injury, the left wing-back position is stretched thin, leaving Clarke Oduor as the only immediate option to fill the gap.
Manager Graham Alexander expressed his frustration with the growing list of injuries, saying:
“You build a squad and think, ‘If we lose this player, we’ve got another as cover.’ But it’s been one blow after another in the same area of the pitch.
“We’ll make sure we look after Lewis first and foremost. He’s had a tough week. Once we know more about his situation, we’ll plan and prepare for Tuesday’s game accordingly.”
Meanwhile, Aden Baldwin, Alex Pattison, and Antoni Sarcevic continued their rehabilitation over the weekend with a private session at the training ground. Alexander is optimistic about their progress, hoping at least two of them will return to team training later this week.
“The plan is to get them involved in some capacity during training,” he said. “Fingers crossed that everything goes as expected because we definitely need them back in action.”
With mounting injuries testing Bradford’s depth, the coming weeks will be a challenge as the team fights to maintain momentum in their campaign.
