As Week 8 approaches, Rams star receiver Cooper Kupp is expected to make his return after an ankle injury sidelined him since Week 2. Although he narrowly avoided being placed on Injured Reserve, Kupp remained out during the Rams’ most recent game against the Raiders. He had been listed as questionable but did not play, despite logging three straight limited practices before the game.
Kupp was a full participant in practice on Monday, suggesting he is on track to return for the Rams’ Thursday night matchup against the Vikings. However, within 24 hours, reports emerged that the Rams are considering trading the 2022 Super Bowl MVP ahead of the November 5 trade deadline. With the deadline fast approaching, Kupp could join the growing list of high-profile wide receivers, such as Davante Adams and Amari Cooper, who are being linked to midseason trades.
Here’s a breakdown of Kupp’s trade rumors, including updates on teams like the Chiefs, 49ers, and other potential landing spots.
On Tuesday, Kupp addressed the trade rumors, stating that he’s aware of the speculation but is focused on being the best player he can be for the Rams. “At the end of the day, I’m going to be where my feet are. I have a job to do here,” Kupp told reporters, per the O.C. Register.
That same day, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Rams have “called multiple teams” about potentially trading Kupp. The Rams are said to be open to absorbing part of Kupp’s 2024 salary and are seeking at least a second-round pick in return for their star receiver.
Several teams have emerged as potential landing spots. The Chiefs and 49ers, both dealing with wide receiver injuries, are likely to be interested in Kupp’s services. Additionally, the Steelers have reportedly been in the market for a wideout since the offseason, and the Buccaneers might also be looking to add to their receiving corps after injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in Week 7.
As the trade deadline looms, the NFL world will be watching closely to see if Cooper Kupp will remain with the Rams or land with a new team in a blockbuster deal.
