Amid Crystal Palace’s tough start to the 2024/25 Premier League season, in which they’ve gone winless through their first eight games, pundit and former Palace forward Clinton Morrison has shared insights from a conversation with a senior figure at the club. Despite Palace’s struggles, the source expressed confidence in turning their season around.
Palace currently sits 18th in the table after eight matches and now faces a challenging home game against an in-form Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park. A failure to secure all three points would deepen their early-season woes.
Speaking live on Soccer Saturday, Morrison detailed a private exchange, saying, “I reached out to someone high up at Palace, worried about our position, and they told me, ‘Don’t worry. It’s too early to panic. Remember what Bournemouth did last season—they turned it around and ended up finishing 12th.’ I said, ‘Fingers crossed. I like your optimism.’”
Pressure Builds on Glasner
It has been 160 days since Palace’s last Premier League win, a 5-0 victory over Aston Villa on the final day of the previous season. Under manager Oliver Glasner, who took over from Roy Hodgson in February, Palace had a strong finish, climbing from 16th to 10th. This season, however, has presented new challenges.
Despite losing Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, Palace retained key players like Eberechi Eze and captain Marc Guehi and added Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah to strengthen the attack. Yet their form has been disappointing, with Nketiah struggling to adapt and Glasner’s tactical approach drawing criticism.
As they prepare for their clash with Spurs, Glasner may need to consider changes, including possibly starting Jean-Philippe Mateta up front. Eze, one of the few standout performers, may also play a critical role. With just five goals scored—the league’s lowest tally—Glasner’s tactics and approach are under scrutiny. If Palace fails to secure a win, pressure could intensify, making each weekend a steeper climb toward safety.
