Derby Midfielder David Ozoh Suffers Fresh Injury Blow, Extending Time on Sidelines

Derby County’s David Ozoh is set to be sidelined for another month after suffering a fresh injury just before his expected return from a hamstring problem.

The 19-year-old midfielder, on loan from Crystal Palace, hasn’t played since mid-September, missing six games due to his previous injury. Now, after hurting his quad, he’s expected to miss four more matches leading up to the November international break.

“He’s had a setback, which is really disappointing because it was his last day of recovery,” Derby boss Paul Warne told BBC Radio Derby. “We won’t see him before the international break, that’s for sure.”

Warne expressed frustration over the situation, adding, “It’s a massive blow, and he’s obviously devastated. By the time he returns, we’ll have been without him for two-and-a-half months, and he had such a promising start.”

Ozoh played a key role in Derby’s strong early season form, starting in three of their first five matches. He even netted his first goal for the Rams in a 3-0 win against Bristol City, just a week before suffering the initial hamstring injury against Cardiff.

Warne acknowledged the team’s resilience in Ozoh’s absence: “It shows how far we’ve come, even without him, but he’s missed, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”

This is Derby’s second major injury blow this week, with defender Ryan Nyambe also ruled out for up to six months due to a knee injury.
