Man United have come to an agreement on terms with Matthijs de Ligt, though the Reds still need to sort out the structure of payment with Bayern Munich.
Manchester United have now confirmed that Joshua Zirkzee is a Red Devil. Erik ten Hag has his first major signing of the summer, with INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe now looking to press on and secure other targets.
The Dutch-heavy transfer links have continued over the last few weeks. It looks like another man from the Netherlands is next in line to make the move to the Theatre of Dreams; Matthijs de Ligt.
Fussball.news have provided an update on the future of the Bayern Munich defender – and it’s good news for United.
According to their latest information, United have reached a ‘full agreement’ with the player over personal terms, with a 5-year contract agreed.
The deal is not yet done, though, as United are continuing to negotiate with Bayern over the transfer fee for the De Ligt signing.
No final agreement is in place with the Bavarian club, though the Reds are prepared to meet the £42m asking price to bring the centre-back in. It’s just the exact conditions of the transfer that need to be clarified.
United would like to structure the payment over as long as possible, in order to help with Premier League Profit & Sustainability rules.
The verdict
It does feel like this move is now a case of ‘if’ rather than ‘when’. De Ligt seems to want to make this transfer, while Ten Hag is super keen on a reunion with the defender.
Now, it’s just down to United to finalise some minor details. In our opinion, this transfer could be complete before the weekend. It will be several weeks before we see De Ligt in action, though, as he’ll now go on holiday after the Netherlands’ exit from the European Championship last Wednesday.
