“Interesting…” – David Ornstein shares what he’s hearing on potential Hojlund-Osimhen swap deal at Man Utd

Manchester United is not expected to transfer Rasmus Hojlund this summer, despite suggestions that he might be included in a swap deal for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, as reported by journalist David Ornstein.

Although the Denmark international has faced challenges during the 2024/25 season at Old Trafford, these difficulties do not necessarily imply that the club intends to part ways with him this summer.

Despite speculation linking Hojlund with a return to Italy and a possible collaboration with former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte at Napoli, Ornstein believes these assertions may lack feasibility.

He emphasizes that United is focused on developing the 22-year-old striker rather than replacing him with an older forward, which would entail a complex transaction.

‘They’ll be wanting to build with him’

Speaking on the Back Pages podcast, Ornstein said that while Osimhen is expected to move this summer, a swap deal involving Hojlund appears unlikely:

“Certainly an interesting proposition, I’m not sure how realistic it is. Manchester United spent 70-plus million pounds on Rasmus Hojlund.

“He’s young, he’s just actually found the back of the net after a long drought against Leicester, and my presumption is they’ll be wanting to build with him, rather than bringing in a much older striker in what would be a complicated deal.

“I do expect Victor Osimhen to be on the move, given that Napoli let him go to Galatasaray and the future is really uncertain for him there.

“And Manchester United have been linked, but I’m not sure how realistic it is that Manchester United would let go of Rasmus Hojlund.

“He is one who would raise some funds, but he would not produce a profit on the book value that he represents.

“So I think it’s more likely that United will raise funds from elsewhere, as attractive a deal as that might sound for transfer lovers.”

Hojlund netted his inaugural Premier League goal of 2025 during the match against Leicester on Sunday, successfully breaking a 13-match streak without scoring, with his last goal recorded in December.

The Danish international has accumulated eight goals and two assists in 39 matches across all competitions, positioning him as the fourth-highest scorer for United this season.

Manchester United is anticipated to further refresh their squad this summer, as experienced players Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton are all set to see their contracts expire.

As reported by GIVEMESPORT sources, the Red Devils are considering the addition of another young striker to challenge Hojlund, with Porto’s Samu Aghehowa identified as a potential target.
