Guilavogui Set to Sign with Leeds
Former French international Joshua Guilavogui is close to signing a short-term deal with Leeds United, which will keep him at Elland Road until the end of the season. Guilavogui impressed manager Daniel Farke during a recent trial at Thorp Arch, securing the opportunity. The 34-year-old defensive midfielder, who has previously played over 300 matches for teams like Saint-Étienne and Wolfsburg, was released by Mainz last summer.
Despite his age, Guilavogui remains fit and eager to make a final impact before potentially retiring. He was spotted with a Leeds fan on Friday night at the Queens Hotel, where he’s currently staying. As a free agent, he can sign outside of the regular transfer windows, and although he hasn’t played competitively since the summer, Farke believes he still has plenty to offer.
Farke Makes Bamford Admission
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has hinted that the club could have secured promotion to the Premier League last season if Patrick Bamford had stayed fit during the crucial final stages of their Championship campaign. The injury-prone striker, once an England international, has faced numerous setbacks in recent years, limiting his appearances on the field.
Even when available, Bamford’s form and work rate have dipped, contributing to reduced playing time. However, Farke has praised his professionalism and hinted that Bamford could get a fresh opportunity, amid reports that the striker may consider leaving Leeds next summer due to a lack of minutes. Last season, Leeds averaged 2.4 points per game in the 15 matches Bamford started, compared to just 1.74 points in the 31 games he missed.
Farke said:
“Patrick has been struggling in recent months with injuries, and we need to rebuild him. But no one should doubt his mentality—he’s an incredibly smart and experienced player. From day one, I’ve appreciated him, and I’m 100% certain that with a fully fit Patrick Bamford, we’d be in the Premier League. The points per game when he played speak for themselves.”
