Kobbie Mainoo sent message by Jordan Henderson after Man United ace takes Euro 2024 squad spot

Jordan Henderson has tipped Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo to continue his rapid rise on the international stage with England at this summer’s European Championships.

Emerging as a breakthrough star this season, 19-year-old midfielder Mainoo has earned recognition for his remarkable performances at the domestic level, culminating in a place in Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for the upcoming European Championships in Germany.

Further emphasising his growing role, Mainoo netted the crucial second goal in this weekend’s FA Cup final where United edged out rivals Manchester City with a 2-1 victory at Wembley. Henderson, 33, though didn’t secure a seat on the flight to the Three Lions camp after transferring from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq to Dutch powerhouse Ajax in January.

However, the former Liverpool captain believes the sense of unity among the remaining squad members may prove beneficial, particularly for Mainoo and other young teammates, during the tournament next month.

Speaking about his expectations, Henderson stated: “I’m sure Kobbie and a few of the other lads who are new to the squad will feel at home straight away and be able to perform whenever they play for England.

“Every time a new or young player comes into the squad, the experienced players in the group feel a responsibility to make them feel as comfortable as possible.

“We want to make sure that they train well, play for England, express themselves and do what they’ve been doing for their club.”

Henderson played a pivotal role in previous Southgate-led England teams that came tantalisingly close to securing England its first major trophy since 1966. Sunderland-born Henderson, who has earned 81 caps for England since his 2010 debut, believes that the team’s recent near-misses will only fuel their desire to triumph at Euro 2024.
