Man United ‘make sudden move’ for £40m Borussia Dortmund star

Reports indicate that Manchester United is interested in acquiring Borussia Dortmund’s standout player, Felix Nmecha.

The Red Devils aim to revitalize their squad during the upcoming summer transfer window following a largely unsatisfactory season under Ruben Amorim’s management.

Previously, United had been linked with a potential transfer for Geovany Quenda, a former player of Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, but Chelsea has since secured his signing.

Now, it has come to light that United is focusing on Germany and is actively pursuing a deal for Nmecha, as reported by Bild.

Currently, Dortmund is likely to miss out on a Champions League spot for the next season, which may compel them to sell at least one of their key players.

This situation could work to United’s advantage, as they are eager to sign the £40 million-rated defensive midfielder during the summer transfer period.

Despite Dortmund’s overall difficulties this season, Nmecha has stood out, making 27 appearances in all competitions.

In the matches he has participated in, he has achieved three goals and two assists, but it is his poise and quick decision-making in midfield that have truly garnered attention.

Dortmund considers Nmecha a key player for their future, as reported by a German source, and they would be reluctant to let him go.

To retain the highly regarded 24-year-old, Dortmund may consider selling players such as Gregor Kobel, Jamie Gittens, and Karim Adeyemi before parting with Nmecha.

Currently, Nmecha is sidelined due to a ligament injury, which has kept him out of action for seven weeks; however, he resumed light training last week.

If Nmecha were to transfer to Old Trafford, he would need to win the support of United fans, who are likely aware of his connections to rival club Manchester City.

The midfielder, along with his brother Lukas, developed through the City academy before moving to the German club Wolfsburg in 2021.

In addition, reports indicate that United has compiled a shortlist of four strikers as they aim to enhance their attacking options this summer.

According to Sky’s Florian Plettenberg, the club is interested in four forwards, including Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

The other players on the shortlist are Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Victor Osimhen from Napoli, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

United’s leading scorer in the league this season is captain Bruno Fernandes, who has recently regained his form but has only netted eight goals in the Premier League overall. Following him is Amad Diallo, who has scored six goals but will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to injury.

The club is reportedly eager to engage in transfers during the summer, having only signed Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven to support Amorim in the winter window.

It remains uncertain how much the club can allocate for new signings while adhering to Financial Fair Play regulations, especially with plans for a new £2 billion stadium disclosed last week.

Nevertheless, it is anticipated that some transactions will occur, with the acquisition of a striker being a top priority.
