Man Utd ‘likely’ to discard serial winner who is willing to take ‘significant’ pay cut to stay

Manchester United are ‘likely’ to discard one of their top-earning players at the end of the season unless a compromise can be made over his wages.

It’s no secret that the Red Devils have underperformed this season, and over the summer, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is anticipated to implement several significant changes.

To lower their payroll costs for the forthcoming campaign, Man Utd is hoping to let go of several established players in addition to adding some new ones.

Among the players facing an unclear future is Raphael Varane, whose departure at the end of the season is increasingly possible, based on recent reports.

The Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler claims that Manchester United “won’t offer” Varane a new contract for his current £340,000 weekly wage.

While a compromise could still be made and Varane could reduce his terms at the club, Wheeler states that it’s ‘likely’ that Varane will leave at the end of the season.

His current deal with the club is set to expire in the summer and while Man Utd do have the option to extend his existing deal by a further year, the club won’t take up that option.

Varane wants to stay

The Frenchman is eager to stay at Old Trafford, despite the fact that he will probably have to hunt for a new team in the summer.

Varane is reportedly prepared to “significantly” lower his pay in order to remain at Manchester United, according to sources from last month in Spain.

Undoubtedly, the club will take this into consideration, but it appears that they have other younger options in mind for the summer.

When healthy, Varane is maybe Manchester United’s best defender, but the team is eager to let him go due to his advanced age and ongoing injury issues.

Varane’s summer successor has been suggested to be Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but the 21-year-old will undoubtedly cost a lot of money.

TEAMtalk sources claim that the Merseyside club will ask for at least £80 million in the summer for their valuable asset.

If Varane decides to leave Manchester United at the conclusion of the season, he will have a lot of options available to him. The Frenchman is reportedly eager to return to Real Madrid or Lens, and he has long been a target for Saudi Arabian clubs.
