Man Utd should forget about £34m target, 19-year-old who ‘fears nothing’ would be much better – opinion

Manchester United are continuously being linked with a move for one £34m player, but there’s a far better option.

After a turbulent season, Erik ten Hag will undoubtedly seek to bolster a number of areas this summer.

Though links to other areas haven’t stopped, central defense, midfield, and striker are the main positions in the forthcoming transfer window.

Right-back Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen has been linked to a £34 million move to Old Trafford for what seems like years.

However, this isn’t rational for Manchester United for a few reasons.

At the moment, Diogo Dalot is unreplaceable, and Frimpong is more of a winger than a right-back, which is unsuitable for United.

This is our choice.

Why Manchester United should target Michael Kayode

Michael Kayode of Fiorentina is a player we believe might be a very intriguing alternative should United continue to insist on buying a right-back.

The 19-year-old Italian has performed admirably for Fiorentina this season, leading them to victory in both the Europa Conference League and Serie A.

Given that right-back isn’t a top priority, Kayode, whose market value is estimated by CIES at £17 million, appears to be the better option because it would only cost half as much this summer as Frimpong.

Vincenzo Italiano, Kayode’s manager, gave the youthful right-back high marks in August 2023.

He explained: “Kayode has a strong character, he fears nothing and it’s important when you are this young.”

Strong character is pivotal for a United player considering the pressure which will arrive.

The reason we like this move so much is it resembles the deal for Tyrell Malacia given he’s a talented young but experienced full-back.

Let’s take a look at how his 2023/24 season is going…

How would Kayode fit in under Erik ten Hag?

As Dalot’s natural backup, Kayode would fit in perfectly if he were signed this summer. This would require Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has been connected to Inter Milan, to be replaced.

Although Kayode still has work to do off the ball, he already has a lot of potential going forward and looks like a less polished Dalot.

In the long run, Kayode would be a very wise addition and replacement.

He has started 17 of the 21 games he has played for Fiorentina this season, and his average FotMob rating is 7.15.

Hopefully, United will pay attention to Kayode’s name and give it some thought this summer instead of Frimpong. We’ll have to wait and see, though.
