Man Utd’s potential Geovany Quenda alternative has just won an award in Portugal amid Ruben Amorim interest

Manchester United has lost the opportunity to acquire Geovany Quenda but may return to the Portuguese market for a suitable alternative.

Although the summer transfer window is still a few months away, speculation is already intensifying.

Recent reports indicate that Manchester United is keen on signing Hugo Ekitike, as the Eintracht Frankfurt forward has been making a significant impact in the Bundesliga.

Additionally, Xavi Simons is also being considered by United, as they seek to strengthen their options in the attacking third, including both attacking midfielders and forwards.

The club is also looking to bolster their wing-back positions but has seen Geovany Quenda opt to join Chelsea instead.

Quenda was a primary target for United, as Ruben Amorim sought to reunite with the promising young talent, but the Sporting player has eluded their grasp.

Manchester United target Roger Fernandes wins award

United continues to pursue wing-back prospects and may still explore opportunities within the Portuguese market.

According to United In Focus, the club has expressed interest in acquiring Roger Fernandes from Braga, identifying him as a potential alternative to Quenda prior to his transfer to Chelsea.

The 19-year-old has recorded five goals and five assists across all competitions this season, primarily operating as a winger.

However, Fernandes has also demonstrated versatility by playing as a wing-back on both the left and right sides, making him a suitable candidate for Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.

Recently, the Braga standout received recognition as the Young Player of the Month in Portugal’s premier league.

His performance in February, which included two goals and one assist, earned him the accolade by a narrow margin.

Fernandes outperformed competitors Diogo Travassos from Estrela da Amadora and Gustavo Sa from Famalicao for the February award, as reported by A Bola.

Although he is currently sidelined due to injury, it is evident that his impressive performances are attracting attention in Portugal, which likely explains United’s interest in him.

Manchester United must wing more wing back options

Amorim is likely familiar with Fernandes from their shared experiences in Portugal; however, he must also consider alternative options in case United secures another player instead, similar to the situation with Quenda.

For United’s summer transfer strategy, acquiring strikers and attacking midfielders is crucial, but they must also prioritize wing backs.

In January, United brought in Patrick Dorgu, and they are optimistic that he will evolve into the club’s future left wing back.

The presence of Diogo Dalot on the right side is advantageous, yet it is evident that United seeks to nurture a young talent in that position as well.

While Quenda meets these criteria, Fernandes does too, and as the transfer window approaches, it is essential to have similar prospects in mind.

We have proposed Dilane Bakwa from Strasbourg as a potential alternative, as United needs to swiftly shift focus from Quenda to adequately prepare for the summer.
