Pep Guardiola is confident that Manchester City will not face a difficult period after his departure, unlike Manchester United’s struggles following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013. Since joining City in 2016, Guardiola has led the team to six Premier League titles, along with four Carabao Cups, two FA Cups, and a UEFA Champions League victory. With his contract expiring at the end of the season, speculation about his future has grown, but Guardiola has assured fans that City will remain strong and well-prepared for success after he moves on.
Reflecting on United’s post-Ferguson challenges, Guardiola said at a recent press conference, “I am pretty sure stability will remain here. It would be a bad sign if everything falls apart after just one person leaves. But that won’t be the case. The club knows exactly what they need to do.”

City’s sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, has also announced he’ll leave at the end of the season, with Hugo Viana lined up to replace him. Guardiola reassured supporters that personnel changes won’t disrupt the club’s structure. “When things aren’t going well, the City owners will respond quickly and calmly. I have no doubts about that,” he added. “Even though it feels like we’ll be here forever, life goes on.”
Guardiola also confirmed that Kevin De Bruyne will remain sidelined with a muscular injury for the Premier League game against Southampton. He acknowledged the club faces challenges with an aging squad and recent injuries, including Rodri’s ACL tear, stressing that “the club has to be ready” for a crucial summer of recruitment next year. “It’s a good question for Hugo Viana and Txiki,” he said. “We need to be prepared, as players come and go. Sporting directors must plan for the future.”
