At one point, Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho appeared to be one of the standout signings of the season.
Sancho made an immediate impression at Chelsea, contributing three assists in his first three matches with the team.
The 24-year-old also netted a stunning goal against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in September, which played a crucial role in the Blues’ thrilling 4-3 comeback victory.
However, he has not scored since that match, casting doubt on his long-term prospects at Stamford Bridge. Although Chelsea is obligated to secure his permanent transfer at the end of the season, recent reports suggest that the club could opt to terminate their agreement to acquire Sancho by paying a penalty fee to Manchester United.
Chelsea will have to pay big sum to scrap Jadon Sancho signing
Chelsea is reportedly contemplating the possibility of returning Sancho to Manchester United by paying a penalty fee, as he has not been making the same impact as he did at the beginning of the season.
If the club decides to proceed with this option, it appears that it will require a significant financial outlay.
As reported by ESPN, Chelsea is obligated to secure Sancho’s permanent transfer for £25 million if they finish 14th or higher in the Premier League, and they would need to pay a substantial amount to terminate this agreement.
Given this situation, if Sancho’s salary is manageable, the club might as well retain him, despite his inconsistent performance this season.
Earlier in the campaign, Sancho demonstrated his potential value to the Chelsea squad, and at just 24 years old, he still has the opportunity to enhance his skills and achieve greater consistency.
However, all options remain viable, particularly as Chelsea is also exploring other winger prospects, such as Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth.
Jadon Sancho yet to complete a successful cross in the Premier League this season
At one time, Sancho appeared to be a genuine source of creativity; however, his crossing accuracy was lacking even then.
As reported by WhoScored, he has made 19 crossing attempts in the Premier League this season without successfully finding a teammate.
Should the England international continue with Chelsea, fans will be eager to see enhancements in this particular aspect of his performance.
