Tee Higgins Leads Bengals to Victory Over Browns in Cleveland

The Cincinnati Bengals secured a much-needed win against the Cleveland Browns, despite another lackluster performance from quarterback Joe Burrow and the offense. On Sunday afternoon, Burrow completed 15 of 25 passes (60%) for 181 yards and two touchdowns, earning a passer rating of 108.9. However, “good” was not enough in the first half.

Cincinnati failed to score any points in the first two quarters. A 100-yard kickoff return by Charlie Jones at the start of the game and a missed extra point gave the Bengals a narrow 7-6 lead at halftime.

In the first half, Cincinnati went three-and-out on four occasions and even managed a four-and-out once, recording only four first downs. They ran a total of 32 plays, amassing just 106 yards.

“We just didn’t make any plays that we needed against these guys,” Burrow reflected post-game. “They’ll stop the run, rush the passer, and their secondary will be around the ball. You have to be precise with your throws, and we just didn’t do that in the first half, but we improved in the second half.”

Burrow threw touchdown passes of 18 yards to Ja’Marr Chase and 25 yards to Tee Higgins in the third quarter, while the Bengals’ defense held strong. This victory also marked the end of a six-game losing streak in Cleveland, where Burrow had previously struggled with a 1-5 record, including 0-3 on the road.

“Big win,” Burrow said. “But it’s just one. We’re 3-4 now. Great teams find ways to win, and I believe we can be a great team. We’re not quite there yet.”

While Burrow acknowledged the offense needs improvement moving forward, it was sufficient to secure the win against the Browns.

“We faced two tough defenses in consecutive weeks, and we found ways to win,” Burrow noted. “People praised our offense during the first four weeks when we were 1-3, which was not ideal. I’d rather have the focus on our offense’s struggles and winning two games than the opposite.”

The third quarter showcased the Bengals’ potential, but the fourth quarter was less impressive, with only two first downs and a missed field goal. The defense once again stepped up, securing the victory.

We aimed to dominate the second half after a rough first half,” said Higgins, who led the team with four receptions for 82 yards. “We know we left opportunities on the field, but we’ll review it and strive for another win next week.
