United confirm long-awaited return of injury-ridden star to training as he works through an individual programme

Manchester United have today confirmed that long-term absentee Tyrell Malacia has progressed in his individual training programme.

The left-back returned to Carrington this summer, having missed the entirety of what would’ve been his sophomore campaign as a Red.

He sustained a knee meniscus injury on the final day of the 2022/2023 Premier League term, which eventually required surgery to try and correct. Malacia had expressed his desire to undergo the operation with his chosen specialist in the Netherlands, despite United suggesting a London-based surgeon.

When he wasn’t recovering as swiftly as the club had hoped, scans were necessary, and they revealed remaining cartilage fragments surrounding the meniscus – therefore delaying his return even further and prompting a second operation.

At last, Malacia returns to training

It meant that the Dutch international was ruled out for a whole year while completing rehabilitation. Now, he’s finally back on the grass at Carrington as the squad prepares for the forthcoming pre-season tour.

United announced this morning that Malacia is working away from the rest of the group and ‘under the guidance of medical staff’ on his own training plan.
