Will Levis and the Tennessee Titans are currently navigating the challenges of syncing up their passing attack, as the young quarterback adapts to a new role and system. After being selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Levis entered a team that was undergoing a transition, especially with their aerial offense. The Titans, historically known for their run-first philosophy under head coach Mike Vrabel and with superstar running back Derrick Henry, are trying to strike a balance by elevating their passing game. However, integrating Levis into this plan has proved challenging.
Levis’ inexperience, coupled with the Titans’ limitations at wide receiver, has contributed to the struggle. While Levis possesses a strong arm and good physical tools, his timing, decision-making, and chemistry with his receivers are still developing. The Titans’ receiving corps has been inconsistent, often failing to create separation or capitalize on opportunities. Veteran wideout DeAndre Hopkins was brought in to help stabilize the receiving group, but beyond Hopkins, the supporting cast has been underwhelming at times.
Additionally, offensive line issues have also impacted the rhythm of the passing game. Levis has often found himself under pressure, which has disrupted his timing and forced hurried throws. This lack of protection makes it difficult for him to develop the confidence and poise needed to execute plays.
The Titans’ transition from a run-heavy offense to one that demands more from its passing game is a complex process. Levis’ growing pains are part of that evolution, and while there are flashes of his potential, the team is facing a steep learning curve. As the season progresses, the Titans will need to focus on improving their offensive line play, refining Levis’ timing with his receivers, and ensuring their scheme better fits his skill set.
