Rotherham United’s manager, Steve Evans, has expressed optimism that Dan Gore, currently on loan from Manchester United, will return to the field next month.
The England youth international has been out of action since early February due to a hairline fracture in a metatarsal bone, which occurred just before he was set to make his full debut for Rotherham. He had to withdraw from the squad on the day of a match against Shrewsbury Town at the New York Stadium after experiencing foot issues upon waking.
Gore joined the League One club during the final days of the January transfer window, signing on loan for the remainder of the season. The expectation was that this opportunity in South Yorkshire would facilitate his development following a challenging period marked by injuries.
Unfortunately, the situation has not unfolded as anticipated, with Gore’s only appearance in Rotherham’s colors being a substitute role against Birmingham City on February 1. Nevertheless, Evans remains hopeful that Gore will contribute during the crucial end-of-season matches.
“We’re hopeful we’ll see him playing April football,” said Evans, as quoted by the Rotherham Advertiser. “The Man United staff have spoken to our medical staff and said they’re hopeful that will be the case.
“I’m keen for our supporters to see the player who we worked so hard to get.”
According to a report from the Manchester Evening News at that time, Gore returned to Carrington in mid-February for treatment. Earlier this month, Evans stated that United and Rotherham were maintaining “regular contact” concerning his recovery.
He said: “Our medical staff are in regular contact with their counterparts at Manchester United. They speak every couple of days. I speak to the coaches there, too, because I know them.”

Over the past year, Gore has faced a series of unfortunate injuries, with his loan at Port Vale concluding after just one match in the latter half of last season. Additionally, he sustained an unusual shoulder injury during the summer.
Rotherham is expected to experience a subdued conclusion to the season, as evidenced by their 3-2 home loss to promotion contenders Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday night, which has left them in 14th place in the League One standings, 16 points away from the play-off positions.
