“Why Rashford is not included is because he lost form” – Gareth Southgate explains Marcus Rashford absence from Euro 2024 squad

Gareth Southgate chose to leave Marcus Rashford out of his provisional Euro 2024 squad, with the England gaffer now explaining his decision.

Manchester United only have a few players named in the latest England squad. Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire are now the best hope for Red Devils representatives in the final squad. Luke Shaw was also given the nod in the provisional gameplan, though numbers will be trimmed down before a final group is named.

No doubt the big talking point after the announcement was Marcus Rashford’s absence. The attacker will know he hasn’t had his finest season in Red Devils colours, though I fully believe he is shocked at the decision…

Anyway, Gareth Southgate has quickly defended himself, explaining why he chose to opt for Anthony Gordon instead of United’s #10…

The England boss had a pretty simple theory behind the decision, claiming that others have just enjoyed better campaigns than the United man.
